In 2022 I was invited to my alma mater, Ithaca College, to participate in their TEDx conference on the theme of empowerment. Listen in as I talk about why empowering women is the work that comes after injustice, and why prioritizing them is how we prevent injustices against women from happening in the first place.
"What will it take to finally achieve gender equality?" was the question I found myself wondering often. It was that question that inspired a learning and writing journey that inspired a book.
Join me as I explore the remaining barriers to achieving gender equality, the best and worst places in the world to be a woman, what we can learn from places who have closed significant gender gaps, and how we can all take everyday actions to create a more gender equal society of the future.
What readers are saying:
"Everyone needs to read this book. I've read numerous passages out loud to friends, colleagues, and family. Why? Because it calls out the "ancient power-based system that is failing all of us" (THE PATRIARCHY) for what it is. A system created by and to serve only high-power, wealthy white men and leaves the rest of us hustling for our worth. It's time to make the matriarchy. It just is. And every single one of us has a part to play. Your call-to-action is waiting for you inside."
Lindsey Lathrop-Ryan, Gender Equity Advisor & Negotiation Coach
“Imagine a world where gender inequality is dissolved, consensus governing is in place, and we all prosper from a society rooted in the power of inclusion. That's exactly the kind of world author Maureen Devine-Ahl envisions as she searches for best practices and lessons learned from around the globe. She shares her deeply personal learning journey, and invites us to envision how we can all participate in building something new.”
--Cady North, Founder of North Financial Advisors and Author, The Resiliency Effect
"Curious and creative, Make the Matriarchy is a modern-day exploration of what we all stand to gain from achieving gender equality, and how we each play a role in making it happen. A must-read for anyone who believes women change the world for the better."
